COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE

Regular Board meetings will be held at 5:00 p.m. on the 2nd Wednesday of every month (except July).  The 4th Wednesday of every month will be for Committee of the Whole meeting (rotation) beginning at 5:00 p.m.

 Turtle Mountain School Division Trustee elections take place every four (4) years. Current information on Trustees and their respective wards is indicated below:

The Operations and Education Committee meetings have been combined into Committee of the Whole Meetings. These meetings are held on the 4th Wednesday of every month. These meetings are not open to the public. The Vice-Chairperson of the Board serves as the chairperson at Meetings of the Whole

The Negotiations Committee is charged with the responsibility of negotiating with all parties and employee groups with whom the Board has dealings, according to the Board's priorities and parameters. These meetings are not open to the public.

Negotiations Committee

The Negotiations Committee:

  1. Prepares for and conducts negotiations with all parties and employee groups. The Committee operates under direction from the Board as to the Board's priorities and parameters.
  2. The Committee reviews all opening proposals.
  3. The Committee then continues to negotiate while keeping the Board updated.
  4. Should an agreement in-committee be reached, all Board members should be notified as soon as possible.

Teacher's Professional Development Committee

The Teacher's Professional Development committee:

The Teacher Professional Development Committee includes teacher and school administration representatives from throughout the division, as well as senior administration and trustee representation.  The responsibility of the committee includes:

 Plan topics and presenters for divisional professional development days as per the T.M.S.D. school year calendar.  In doing so, the committee discusses the current professional development needs of teachers in relation to priorities with school and division strategic plans. 

  1. Plan for the implementation of division professional development days, including the venue, materials required for staff at the session, refreshments and lunch, and divisional transportation to and from the venue.
  2. Plan and implement survey processes for teaching staff, both to receive feedback regarding professional development sessions which have occurred within the division as well as to receive feedback regarding future sessions.
  3. Review survey feedback from teaching staff as part of planning for future professional development sessions. 

 Workplace Safety and Health Committee

The Workplace Safety and Health Committee:

The main concern of the WSH Committee is to provide a means for employees and employers to work together in a reasonable and
co-operative way to identify and resolve safety and health problems in the workplace. The Committee further attempts to develop practices and procedures that will provide for health in the workplace. Development of education and training programs is also a priority of the Committee.

The general duties are:

  • The receipt, consideration and disposition of concerns and complaints relative to safety and health in a workplace.
  • Identification of risks to the safety and health of workers and/or other persons in the workplace
  • Development and promotion of a safety program including co-operation with Safety and Health Officers and the development of the educational programs.
  • Maintenance of a record of committee activities.
  • Such other duties as may be specified in the Act.

The Board of Trustees for Turtle Mountain School Division is made up of six trustees representing three wards. The Trustees are: Deanna Morgan, Rodney Hintz, Nanette Glover, Robert MacTavish, Garth Nichol and Karen Wear.

Regular meetings of the Board are open to the public, and occur on the second Wednesday of each month at 5:00 p.m. at the Division Board Office.  The 4th Wednesday of every month will be for Committee of the Whole. In addition, the Board holds two Education Specific meetings throughout the year. These meetings take place on-site in one colony school, one highway school and in both Boissevain and Killarney schools.

The Board invites communication with the public. All signed correspondence will be reviewed by the Board and dealt with appropriately.
